Research Timeline

The GME Research Department is dedicated to ongoing support of resident and faculty scholarly activity and research. Please see the following expectations for project turnaround times.

I. Study Planning and Literature Review

Our librarian is available during business hours and happy to help with requests.

  • Reference Desk Questions – 48 hours
  • Literature Search – 1-4 weeks, depending on the complexity of the search
  • Borrowed Article (Interlibrary Loan) – 1 week
  • Borrowed Books (Interlibrary Loan) – 1-3 weeks

II. Internal Review Board (IRB) Application

Most new IRB applications take three to four weeks to be approved, depending on the quality and content of the original IRB application. Full Board studies may take longer. The Community Memorial IRB meets the first Tuesday of each month, except January and August. Submissions are due by 5 pm, approximately six weeks prior to the board meeting in order to be placed on the agenda.

III. Data Collection and Analysis

The Helpdesk and IT department will be working to obtain data for projects that have IRB approval. The shortest expected turnaround time(s) are as follows:

  • 2 weeks for IT data
  • 4 weeks for statistical analysis if done through our research department (time may vary depending on availability of statisticians and complexity of analysis)
  • Time to complete statistical analysis through CSUCI may vary based on availability of faculty

IV. Sharing Your Findings

GME Research Staff can assist with poster presentations, podium presentations, and journal manuscripts. Posters and podium presentations guidance, minimum 3 weeks turnaround

  • Posters should be printed at least 8 business days prior to the presentation deadline
  • Moderate to large manuscripts guidance, minimum 4-weeks turnaround
