Why Ventura? When I interviewed for residency, I did not have specific ties to California (though I had an older sister who lived near Santa Monica for 2 years around 2015-2017). I was very drawn to the very approachable demeanor of all the residents and faculty I interacted with, was impressed by the program director’s enthusiasm for resident wellness and academic achievement, and was inspired by the institution’s commitment to serving the underserved. As a very nice additional benefit, I couldn’t stop admiring pictures of Beautiful Ventura Beach before actually starting the next chapter of my life there!
