#OurNewCMH — Moving Day

On Sunday December 16 2018, our new Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, CA officially opened to patients and the public. The much anticipated final step in the opening process included moving 130 patients from the adjacent Mountain Tower (old hospital) into the state-of-the-art, 355,000 square foot Ocean Tower (new hospital).

Move day kicked off with the official opening of the Emergency Department and lighting of the new exterior “emergency” sign. Simultaneously, the old Emergency Department closed, signaling the beginning of a new era of healthcare in Ventura County.

The move was overseen by an expert team of hospital transition specialists, who began working with Community Memorial Health System leadership and staff to plan the transition well before construction on the new hospital was complete. The carefully orchestrated process took the better part of the day, and was completed without incident.

“The transfer of our patients into their new rooms in the Ocean Tower and the official opening of our new hospital was an exciting day for everyone involved,” said Community Memorial Health System President and CEO Gary Wilde. “We waited a long time for that day, and are thrilled that all went as well as expected. We remain grateful for the community’s ongoing support of our new hospital.”

Community Memorial Health System built the new Ocean Tower to meet seismic requirements that the state of California mandated after the 1994 Northridge earthquake, to replace an aging structure built in the 1960s, and to attract the next generation of physicians.
