Community Memorial Pharmacy Achieves URAC Accreditation

Community Memorial Healthcare is proud to announce that the Community Memorial Pharmacy has received accreditation from the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) for Specialty Pharmacy. By achieving URAC accreditation, the Community Memorial Pharmacy has demonstrated a commitment to high-quality healthcare, patient safety, and improved outcomes, as well as meeting the industry’s most rigorous standards.

What is URAC?

URAC is the independent leader in promoting healthcare quality by setting high standards for clinical practice, consumer protections, performance measurement, operations infrastructure, and risk management. Founded in 1990 as a non-profit organization, URAC promotes high healthcare quality and patient safety through renowned accreditation programs with evidence-based standards developed by industry experts.

“I am incredibly proud of the work our pharmacy does to support the patients in our community who are managing chronic or complex illnesses,” said Mick Zdeblick, President & Chief Executive Officer of Community Memorial Healthcare. “This Specialty Pharmacy accreditation is another example of how our patients can expect more from the services we provide at Community Memorial.”

What Does URAC Accreditation Mean For Patients?

The Community Memorial Pharmacy is an open-door, retail and specialty pharmacy located on the Ventura hospital campus at 2790 Loma Vista Road. The pharmacy fills and refills retail and specialty medication prescriptions. Patients can pick up their medications in person or have them delivered. Same-day delivery service is available in Camarillo, Carpinteria, Fillmore, Port Hueneme, Newbury Park, Ojai, Oak View, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Santa Paula, Simi Valley and Ventura. Delivery is free of charge to patients of the Community Memorial Health Centers or Community Memorial hospitals in Ventura or Ojai.

“This accreditation means that more patients in Ventura County have access to a high level of care and support,” said Jack Tretko, Pharm.D, Director of Pharmacy Services at Community Memorial Healthcare. “Not only does it give us access to limited distribution medications other pharmacies can’t get, but it allows us to work with a wider variety of insurance carriers, meaning more patients get the medications they need.”

Last year, the Community Memorial Pharmacy was named a “Specialty Pharmacy” from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC). The recent URAC accreditation means the pharmacy now carries both widely recognized specialty pharmacy accreditations and maintains the standards outlined by both accrediting bodies. Benefits to patients include 24/7 support for specialty medication management, assistance with insurance prior-authorizations, and same- or next-day delivery at little to no cost.

What Makes Community Memorial Pharmacy Different?

Specialty pharmacies dispense injectable, intravenous, or oral medications to patients’ homes, physicians’ offices, or clinics, and offer disease-specific clinical monitoring and help make sure patients take their medications as directed. The Community Memorial Pharmacy provides more expertise, shorter wait times, and immediate access to a wider variety of medications than other pharmacies. It offers new prescriptions and refills for all medications, including specialty medications for complex and chronic health conditions. The pharmacy works closely with the Community Memorial hospitals, the Health Centers, and prescribing doctors throughout Ventura County to ensure that all medications are managed effectively.
