A cancer diagnosis changes your life in a multitude of ways — physically, mentally, and emotionally. Whether you’re newly diagnosed, currently going through treatment, or caring for a loved one with cancer, Community Memorial is here for you. Our cancer program provides patients with quality, compassionate care close to home.
We offer all major diagnostic and treatment modalities, including advanced imaging technology, state-of-the-art surgical treatment, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Our outpatient specialty centers focus on early detection, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and ongoing care. Our Cancer Resource Center provides information and support services for patients and their families.
Accredited by the Joint Commission on Cancer, Community Memorial Cancer Care has received special commendations for providing prevention and early detection programs, submitting data to the National Cancer Database, following best practice patient management and treatment guidelines, and analyzing patient outcomes.
The program is overseen by our Cancer Committee, a group of physicians and departmental representatives involved directly or indirectly in the treatment of our cancer patients. The committee ensures that consultative services are available to cancer patients and their families.
Our interdisciplinary Cancer Conference meets weekly to discuss new and existing cases. This includes the evaluation of patients for clinical trial referral and the review of National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines in treatment discussions. The group consists of radiologists, medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, and other experts. While maintaining patient confidentiality, the group goes over the imaging, test results, and pathology biopsy slides pertaining to a specific case. Then, they discuss the pros and cons of different therapies. By marshalling the expertise of different specialists, the Cancer Conference helps us give our patients the best care and achieve the best possible outcome.
The subspecialty of gynecologic oncology focuses on cancers of the female reproductive system. As an early adopter of da Vinci® robotic-assisted surgery, Community Memorial has attracted an impressive group of gynecologic oncologists–experts in the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian, uterine, vaginal, cervical, and vulvar cancers. These surgeons excel at complex laparoscopic and robotic gynecological surgeries. The precision and control of da Vinci® robotic-assisted surgery makes it an ideal tool for delicate gynecological procedures.
